Causey trounces primary opponent in Mecklenburg Straw Poll

by Kristie Bass

February 16, 2012

CHARLOTTE, NC. — Republican candidate Mike Caussey, running for Commissioner of Insurance, says he didn't even know about any straw polls at the Mecklenburg County GOP Precinct meetings before he got there Thursday night.

To say Causey was the heavy favorite at the important Mecklenburg event would be an understatement. And he did not disappoint his supporters, trouncing his straw poll opponent by winning the poll with a 66 percent to 34 percent margin. Causey's unofficial, but announced primary opponent, insurance agent James McCall of Mooresville was there to meet and greet the Mecklenburg delegates.

For Causey, the victory was especially sweet considering that McCall was born and raised in Mecklenburg County and arrived early to campaign for the straw poll. Causey is a native and resident of Guilford County.

The straw poll, organized and sponsored by Mecklenburg County Repiublican Party, included races for President, Lt. Governor, Council-of-State, congressional and local elected offices.

Rick Santorum won the vote for U.S. President with nearly 42 percent; Vernon Robinson won the vote for U.S. Congress - District 8 with 31 percent and Jim Pendergraph won the U.S. Congress - District 9 straw poll with nearly 40 percent of the vote.

Insurance Companies drop Mobile Homes

State Farm is not the only Insurance Company that does not insure Mobile Homes. Go try to purchase a Mobile Home policy. This area does not have a mobile home market. No Insurance company wants that risk, not just State Farm or Nation Wide. Foremost Insurance Company is one of the few that will write them, and you pay thru the nose of the coverage. It is not what kind of damage you will have from a loss, it is how big the total loss will be. ALL mobile home fires are total losses. Why take the risk when as a insurance company you know it only takes 2 minutes for a trailer to burn. It doesn't matter how good they are built, they are still a mobile home which is made with less quality than a stick built house. The Insurance Companies can only do what the Insurance Commissioner allows them to do. Vote smarter next time.

Ins Comm Candidate Mike Causey announces candidacy in Dare County
GOP elected officials, local media snub
Posted by: lmkitties under 2012 Election

Mike Causey, Republican candidate for North Carolina Insurance Commissioner, took the first step in his campaign today on the steps of the Dare County Courthouse. Causey chose Dare County to launch his campaign today, he said, “…to bring focus on the problem of insurance in the coastal counties”

Premiums for household insurance, especially windstorm insurance, have skyrocketed in recent years in eastern North Carolina, worse yet in the coastal counties. Causey, who ran for the office previously, said he was urged by North Carolina Republican leaders to seek the office this year because of widespread and bipartisan criticism of how the State Office of Insurance has been administered.

Causey intends to visit all of North Carolina’s 100 counties with a particular emphasis on eastern North Carolina.

Local business and party leaders attended Causey’s kickoff news conference. Dare GOP Chairman Pat Patterson and several party members welcomed Mr. Causey to Dare County. Tommy Fulcher, a top Democratic Party operative, attended but tried to keep a low profile (can you keep a low profile with a hunter-orange jacket?), insisting that he just happened to be in the area (can you just happen to be driving by the courthouse?).

NC-20 President Willo Kelly and Republican Commissioner candidate Francis D’Ambra were also on hand for the event. Surprisingly, or not, not a single elected official from the County, or from any town in the County, bothered to attend, including not one of the Republican County Commissioners. Also missing from the ‘news’ conference was the ‘news’ media. Not a single reporter from the local mainstream media (Coastland Times, Sentinel, Outer Banks Voice or Virginian Pilot) attended the campaign announcement.
