Mike Causey statement

I believe the state insurance regulator should serve the people of the state - ALL THE PEOPLE of the state, not just some of the people. The primary job of North Carolina's Insurance Commissioner is to protect consumers, and provide a fair and efficient competitive regulatory environment. Consumers are NOT getting the protection they deserve and we do not have a competitive regulatory environment.

There are only 8 companies, other than Blue Cross /Blue Shield, currently writing individual health insurance in North Carolina. (BlueCross has more than 80-percent market share)

On the property insurance side, only 8 companies are writing property insurance in eastern North Carolina

The fire departments and rescue squads need help. It is the proximity of fire departments, especially in rural areas, that determine the fire insurance rates. I will make sure that ALL fire departments and rescue squads have the tools and resources they need to do their job.

I will improve the climate for worker's compensation insurance in North Carolina. Right now the RATES are TOO HIGH and the laws are too complex. I'll work to make workers comp rates lower and streamline the complex regulations.

What I will do as Commissioner of Insurance:
  • Make sweeping reforms to the NC DOI and the 'Good Ol' Boy Network' that now prevails in that office. I will review every operation in that department, from bottom to top, from wall to wall, and will cut the red tape and modernize this office and make it work for the people.
  • Establish an around-the-clock customer service and crisis command center in the Department of Insurance.
  • Put real people on the telephones, not those frustrating push buttons that send you in circles for hours on end.
  • Make sure consumers are protected; That YOUR insurance department provides a fair, efficient and competitive regulatory environment, with a free market approach.
  • Establish a 'CONSUMER ADVOCATE' in the Department to help resolve consumer disputes with insurers and assist consumers with insurance issues.
By electing Mike Causey, North Carolinians will see increased competition in the insurance market and more new jobs brought to North Carolina. We can be a leader in alternative health care solutions, insurance modernization with a healthy insurance climate in a more free market environment.. These changes will save money, open new markets and strengthen our economy.

Insuring a great state: a three part series on liability coverage in N.C.

on February 25, 2012in Budgets, taxes and spending, Commerce, Justice and Public Safety
Though rarely comprising a campaign soundbite, insurance regulations impact residents’ wallets every month.

Three sectors of statewide public policy could undergo major insurance reforms this year. In a three part series I’ll address challenges facing auto insurance, the Beach Plan and healthcare coverage in North Carolina.

Today I’ll explain how a hidden fee on auto insurance premiums and price mandates by state government are raising costs for most drivers...Read More

I'm a Democrat voting for a Republican to get someone with a backbone in the office who's for the people, not the insurance companies. Because the current commissioner, in my opinion, is afraid of the insurance companies and supports unfair practices by the insurance companies by ignoring legit complaints unfair practices. Mr. Goodwin is unresponsive to citizens who file complaints about unfair and fraudulent practices by insurance companies. You won't see any postings about fraud when it comes to the insurance companies themselves...you will always see postings about individuals who are prosecuted on behalf of the insurance companies. I know this from personal experience that the DOI under Mr. Goodwin will ignore complaints from citizens dealing with unfair and deceptive practices by insurance companies. Mr. Goodwin won't even respond. First his office claimed they didn't have a budget to investigate my complaint against Farm Bureau and went so far as to misrepresent a provision of my insurance contract

Mike has spent his career in the Insurance Business, knows the NC Insurance department is a "farce" and the Past/Present Insurance Commissioners does little to nothing for the consumers/agents...and that their allegiance is/has been helping Insurance Companies to get money to campaign. I also put 28 years in the insurance industry and know how the Insurance Commissioners do......IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE IN THEIR WAY OF DOING BUSINESS.

Car insurance along with homeowners rates have skyrocketed as the market is hardening as companies feel they can raise their rates. Jobs are also a HUGE issue, help us grow and prosper!

I am endorsing Mike, because I have known him for years, he knows all about Insurance. He will focus on the problem of the high insurance in the coastal regions because he understands what the residents are dealing with. Only certain insurance companies will even insurance the residents. Mike understands homeowner insurance rates have increased, Vehicle insurance is higher because we pay for those who have no insurance! These are a few reasons why I know Mike Causey is who we need to vote in as Insurance Comissioner.

I have been acquainted with Mike for over a decade. I know Mike will do a great job bringing fairness to the Department of Insurance. I deal with inspectors on a daily baisis and know how important it is for the Insurance Commissioner to instruct them to be helpful and fair in their interpretations of the code. Looking forward to your swearing in.

I endorse Mike Causey because we need someone who is responsive to comments, concerns and complaints of the insured as the present Commissioner of Insurance is of the Insurance Companies in NC. I've been insured with Farm Bureau since 1983 and just had my homeowners insurance cancelled because of two reasons. 1. I had a claim due to Hurricane Irene and 2. I did not have a vehicle covered by F.B. so I did not have multi coverage. This was told to me by my agent and as fact because my mother had a claim AND has a car insured by Farm Bureau and her insurance was not cancelled. I'm not looking for a bail out. I am looking for someone like Mike Causey I know will take into account the insured and not just the insuror. Mike Causey is exactly the "hope FOR change" we need in the Department of Insurance.

Mike came to the MSPCA (MidSouth Professional Cleaners Assoc.) meeting in March. He presented his past connection to the insurance industry and why he was running for Insurance Commissioner. I feel he will make a good commissioner because he knows the business from both sides of the fence and will be more fair in dealing with both the industry and consumer. This is the type of "change" we really need in state government.

The present NC Commissioner protects the insurance companies because they fund his re-election campaign which makes him indebted to them....I have a problem with a company andI have it all documented and all Goodwin did was pass the buck to his "Flunkies" and cover the damn insurance company just like the former Jim Long did. IT TIME TO START WORKING FOR THE PEOPLE IN NC!!!!!!! Causey will cause this to happen

It is time we get someone in this office who understands the needs of the consumers and the bias which has run the establishment for too long. The insurance industry gets a bad rap many times for poor leadership and no accountability. as a small business owner and someone who has dedicated a career to this industry, I am ready for conservative leadership with a gainful plan and a personalized approach
